Friday I finished up my last day of work till May!! Scott had gone to the Cubs game with some friends and when I got home, I was greeted by 4 funny drunkies and this…
Mel insisted that Scott and I use the real wine glasses which I told her probably wasn’t a good idea but she insisted…
We all went out on the deck and did a fun little toast…
And I tried to slick down Scott’s hair for the camera – I purposely haven’t cut it for almost 2 months in anticipation of shearing the sheep (as I like to call it) for the wedding trip….
…which obviously didn’t work.
And somehow Scott’s wine glass ended up falling off the deck and landing 2 stories below, plummeting to its death. Ah well, I warned them.
We talked about going out for dinner, but a few of our clan were in no shape to be seen in public just yet, so Mel came up with another plan. She asked me what the one thing is that I love to eat but don’t get to have very often. My answer? Sushi!
Holy crap, I had never seen so much sushi in my life! After we feasted, I put on some tunes and some impromptu karaoke into my tv remote began…
After about 3 songs, we decided to do it right and hit the karaoke bar for a few hours. I had a great time out celebrating with good friends at our impromptu send-off party. Thanks guys!
So friends, this is me signing off for now. I’ll be back in 2 weeks with a shiny new husband and a nice tan, and I’ll try to check in at some point while we’re out there, ’cause you know I just can’t stay away! Keep your fingers crossed for me that there’s no rain on Thursday. Grrr…
On a trip to Party City a while back, I picked up this guest book for $15…
Seemed a little plain but I knew I could add a few decorative touches to it. I pulled out some ribbon and got to work. First I carefully peeled back the paper lining the inside cover, then cut 2 pieces of ribbon and glued them on the inside. Then I glued the paper back over the edges of the ribbon. Using the same method I came up with for my card box bow, I created a bow and sewed it directly onto the book. In hindsight, I should have done this before I glued the paper back on because I now have a few not-so-pretty holes inside the cover of the book…
Oh well, maybe I can cover it up with something. And here’s the finished product…
Looks a little nicer with some embellishments!
Did you add your own personal touches to anything that you thought looked a little plain?
Sunday I went up to my friend Sharon’s house for some foiling/hair cutting fun…we took care of each others atrocious roots (don’t judge the lazy stylists) to make sure we’re in tip-top shape for next week, and at the same time I was able to drop off our OOT bags. Ah, there’s room in my closet again! Sharon is truly my hero – she’s taking the bags down there for us in the same bag we plan to stuff full of wedding dress for her return flight home. Yep, she’s taking that off my hands, too. I figured I’d see if she could also stuff these bad boys into said bag to which she happily obliged….
Sharon, did you ever know that you’re my hero? You’re everything I wish I could beeeeeeeeeee…
Ahem, anywho, I made one for each bag – 24 in total – they contain 2 Tylenol packets (for the hangovers), 2 Advil packets (for the sunburnt), 4 band aids (for the clumsies), and 2 small bottles of suntan lotion (for the pasties). And like a good little crafty beaver bride on my last day with absolutely nothing to do before the wedding, I decided to make cute little tags for each insert.
As I left Sharon’s house a whole lot blonder and 24 OOT bags lighter, I gave her a hug and realized it was the last time I’d see her until we’re 2120 miles from home! Seriously though, I don’t know what I’d do without this girl.
Do you have any friends helping to make your wedding day a little easier?
This is the bracelet I’ll be wearing for my wedding…
I’m honored to say that I will be the 4th Bee to wear this gorgeous bracelet on my wedding day. Can anyone name the other 3 Bees that wore this when they got married?
Yesterday afternoon in the rain, we buried my good friend’s mom.
Because death doesn’t wait for weddings.
Then last night I received a voicemail from another friend, my best friend since kindergarten, and I just knew. I could hear it in her voice. She simply said, “Call me. I just wanted to let you know what’s going on.” I already knew it was her mom, the woman who I’ve considered my second mom for 27 years. So I put on my big girl pants, and I called her.
Because sickness doesn’t wait for weddings.
As she spoke, everything over the last few days just hit me like a ton of bricks. And I had a little tear-filled meltdown. But it’s such a rollercoaster because at the same time, I have this happy little voice whispering in my ear, ’14 days till the wedding, it’s so close!’ This time in 2 weeks, I’ll be counting the hours instead of the days.
Despite everything that has happened over the last week, I’m trying to remind myself that I’m allowed to still be excited while all these bad things are happening at the same time. And although I find myself getting weepy over the littlest things, I’m being a good Libra and trying to keep my emotions as balanced as can be. Even with puffy eyes and not so cute oopsies of mascara on my swollen eyelids.
Because weddings shouldn’t wait for life to happen.
On Easter, I was standing in the kitchen with Mr. Nachos and my parents while my Dad was cutting up the ham, and we were talking wedding stuff. That’s when I decided it was the perfect time to ask my Dad if he would walk me down the aisle. I know it didn’t have to be asked, but I wanted him to know that it was important to me and something I was really looking forward to. His response?
Only if we can both wear these…
Dad: “You and I can bounce off each other a few times on the way down the aisle, then I can bump Mr. N and yell, ‘she’s all yours!'”
Mr. Nachos: “We did say people can wear whatever they want to the wedding.”
Dad: “Well, in that case, I’m just wearing my jockeys.”
Yup, that’s my Dad! 🙂 Needless to say, it’s going to be a fun week on vacation with my family – it’s been a long time since that’s happened.
Who’s walking you down the aisle? (and I hope for your sake they plan on wearing clothes)
Now that we’re in the home stretch and I’ve recovered from by bachelorette party, I figured what better way to spend all my free time (ha!) than come up with another DIY project? So I present to you our water bottle labels for the OOT bags.
I started playing around in MS Word and tweaking with Photoshop and came up with this…
Oh, but wait, who’s that in the corner? It’s us in PowerPoint form!
Yeah, this is what I do at work. Hey, when I’m sitting in front of the computer for 8 hours a day, my creative side starts getting the better of me! Don’t tell my boss.
